Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena

Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, known as BMPS or MPS, is an Italian bank headquartered in Siena that traces its origins to 1472 as a mount of piety and was established in its modern form in 1624. It is recognized as the worlds oldest bank still in continuous operation. The bank provides retail banking, corporate banking, investment banking, insurance and investment management services, and its 2025 acquisition of Mediobanca made it Italys third largest bank. As of May 2026 its major shareholders included the investment firm Delfin, the Caltagirone group, and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the bank has been the subject of competing takeover activity involving Intesa Sanpaolo.
