NatWest Group plc

NatWest Group plc is a British banking and insurance holding company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, whose principal subsidiaries include National Westminster Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest Markets, Coutts and Evelyn Partners, and which retains the authority to issue banknotes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Founded on 25 March 1968, it briefly became the largest bank in the world before the 2008 financial crisis, and was in 2009 briefly the world's largest company by both assets, at 1.9 trillion pounds, and liabilities, at 1.8 trillion pounds. The UK government bailed the bank out during the crisis, held a majority stake until 28 March 2022, and sold its final shares on 30 May 2025 at a total loss to taxpayers of about 10 billion pounds; the group is listed on the London Stock Exchange as a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
