Y Combinator

Y Combinator is an American startup accelerator and venture capital firm founded in March 2005 by Paul Graham, Jessica Livingston, Robert Tappan Morris, and Trevor Blackwell, headquartered in San Francisco, California. It runs four cohorts of startups a year, typically providing 500,000 dollars in seed funding through a combination of an equity purchase and an uncapped simple agreement for future equity, and has launched more than 5,000 companies with a combined valuation of 600 billion dollars, including Airbnb, Stripe, Dropbox, DoorDash, and Coinbase. The firm also operates the technology news site Hacker News and is led by president and chief executive Garry Tan.
