Croydon Co-operative Society

Croydon Co-operative Society was a retail cooperative that traded from 118 Church Street in Croydon, England, from 1887, tracing its roots to an earlier society formed in 1860, and expanded into a bakery and stables as well as branches in South Norwood and Thornton Heath. By 1917 it had grown to 7,595 members and 175 employees through acquisitions of the Caterham, Epsom, and Sutton cooperatives before merging in 1918 into the newly formed South Suburban Co-operative Society, a predecessor of today's Co-operative Group.
