SABMiller plc

Consumer Staples

SABMiller plc was an Anglo-South African multinational brewing and beverage company, headquartered in Woking, England, until it was acquired by AB InBev in October 2016 for about 107 billion US dollars. It began as South African Breweries in 1895, serving miners and prospectors around Johannesburg, and two years later became the first industrial company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. It expanded abroad from the early 1990s, moved to a UK holding company and primary London listing in 1999, and in 2002 bought Miller Brewing to form SABMiller. It was the second-largest brewer by revenue, a major Coca-Cola bottler, and owned brands such as Foster's, Miller and Pilsner Urquell across about eighty countries. After the takeover it became a division of AB InBev, and several of its holdings were sold on to Asahi, Molson Coors and others.
