Whataburger is a privately held American fast food chain specializing in hamburgers, founded in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950 by Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton, and recognizable for its distinctive orange and white striped A-frame buildings. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the chain operates about 1,000 restaurants across 17 states, concentrated in Texas and the surrounding South and Southwest. The Dobson family owned Whataburger until 2019, when it sold a majority stake to the investment firm BDT Capital while retaining a minority interest.
