Indian Coffee House is an Indian restaurant chain organized as a network of worker cooperatives, tracing to Coffee Board-run outlets opened from the 1930s, the first in Churchgate, Bombay, in 1936, that were taken over by their workers after communist leader A. K. Gopalan encouraged resistance to the Coffee Board's planned closures in the mid-1950s. Individual cooperative societies were formed city by city, including Bangalore's on August 19, 1957 and Delhi's on December 27, 1957, and were brought together under the All India Coffee Workers' Co-operative Societies Federation, established December 17, 1960. The chain today operates through thirteen affiliated cooperative societies running nearly 400 coffee houses across India, with post-partition branches also continuing in Pakistan under separate management.
