Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, operating under the Jio brand, is an Indian telecommunications operator headquartered in Navi Mumbai and controlled by Reliance Industries, the conglomerate led by Mukesh Ambani. Jio launched commercial service in 2016 as an all-IP, LTE-only network offering data at prices far below prevailing Indian market rates, a strategy credited with rapidly reshaping India's telecom sector, forcing consolidation among rivals and dramatically accelerating national mobile data adoption. Jio built out one of the world's largest 4G networks essentially from a greenfield start and was among the first Indian operators to roll out standalone 5G nationally, and its parent has organized the wider Jio Platforms technology business, which has attracted substantial outside investment from global technology and private equity investors, around the telecom operator as its anchor.
