Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. is an American medical device company headquartered in Warsaw, Indiana, one of the largest makers of orthopedic implants in the world, including hip and knee joint replacements. Zimmer traces to 1927, when Justin O. Zimmer founded a company in Warsaw, Indiana, to manufacture aluminum splints and later orthopedic implants, while Biomet was founded in 1977 in the same Indiana town, which grew into a recognized center of the American orthopedic device industry. Zimmer acquired Biomet in 2015 to form Zimmer Biomet, and the combined company today makes joint replacement implants, surgical instruments, and related products used in orthopedic and spine surgery worldwide.
