Yonhap News Agency is South Korea's principal news agency, headquartered in Seoul and formed in 1980 through the consolidation of earlier domestic wire services. It receives some public funding and is treated as South Korea's quasi-official national news agency, supplying the bulk of wire coverage used by the country's newspapers and broadcasters as well as English-language reporting on Korea for international outlets.
