Vitol is a Swiss based Dutch multinational energy and commodity trading company founded in Rotterdam in 1966 by Henk Vietor, now headquartered jointly in Geneva and Rotterdam with more than forty offices worldwide. It trades physical commodities including crude oil, natural gas, liquefied natural gas, coal, metals and carbon credits, and it also operates refining, storage, shipping and exploration businesses. The company ships more than three hundred fifty million tonnes of crude oil a year and handles more than seven million barrels a day of oil and products, a volume close to Japan's total daily consumption. Vitol is privately owned by roughly four hundred partner employees, reported revenue of three hundred forty three billion dollars in 2025, and became the world's largest independent commodity trader after completing its acquisition of Noble Group in January 2025.
