Ventas, Inc. is an American healthcare-focused real estate investment trust headquartered in Chicago, spun off in 1998 from the hospital operating company Vencor as a separate real estate entity holding many of that company's properties. It owns a diversified portfolio of senior housing communities, medical office buildings, life science facilities and hospitals, leasing them to healthcare operators rather than running the facilities itself.
