Universal Animation Studios, formerly Universal Cartoon Studios, is an American animation studio and a unit of Universal 1440 Entertainment, the home entertainment division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment within NBCUniversal and Comcast. It is best known for direct-to-video sequels to Universal films such as An American Tail, The Land Before Time, Balto and Curious George, and it rarely released theatrical films. Most animation is done overseas by studios such as AKOM, Wang Film Productions and Rough Draft Studios, while pre-production and post-production happen in the United States. After Universal acquired DreamWorks Animation in August 2016, the unit was merged with DreamWorks Animation Television.
