Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc., widely known as TEPCO, is a Japanese electric utility headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 1951 as one of the regional utilities created when Japan's power industry was reorganized during the postwar occupation era. It is the largest electric utility in Japan, serving the greater Tokyo metropolitan region, and it is widely known internationally as the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the site of the March 2011 nuclear disaster that followed the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
