The Associated Press is an American not-for-profit news cooperative headquartered in New York City, founded in 1846 by a group of New York newspapers to share the cost of covering the Mexican-American War by telegraph. Owned by its contributing US newspaper and broadcast members, it is one of the world's largest and oldest news organizations, and its AP Stylebook is a widely used journalism style guide.
