Terrytoons was an American animation studio headquartered in New Rochelle, New York. It was founded by Paul Terry, Frank Moser and Joseph Coffman, was active from 1929 until it closed on 29 December 1972, and was briefly revived in name only for television between 1987 and 1996. The studio created cartoon characters including Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle, Gandy Goose and Deputy Dawg, and Ralph Bakshi began his career there. Its shorts were released to theaters by 20th Century Fox from 1935 until 1973. CBS bought the studio after Terry retired in 1956, and later sold it to Viacom, which suspended its operations.
