Suzuki Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles, and marine outboard engines headquartered in Hamamatsu, Japan. It was founded in 1909 by Michio Suzuki as the Suzuki Loom Works, originally a maker of weaving looms for Japan's textile industry, and the company moved into motor vehicle production in the 1950s, first with motorized bicycles and then small automobiles. Suzuki became particularly known for compact and subcompact cars and for a strong position in emerging automobile markets such as India, where its joint venture Maruti Suzuki has long been the leading passenger car maker, alongside a substantial motorcycle and outboard marine engine business.
