State Grid Corporation of China is a Chinese state owned electric utility company headquartered in Beijing, established in December 2002. It operates the transmission and distribution network that carries roughly eighty percent of China's electricity, serving more than one billion customers through about one point four million employees. By 2024 revenue the company ranked among the largest companies in the world, behind only Walmart and Amazon, with reported revenue near five hundred forty eight billion dollars and total assets above eight hundred billion dollars. It is overseen by the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and is counted among China's core central state owned enterprises, with a growing role in smart grid technology and clean energy infrastructure.
