Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational specialty chemicals company headquartered in Tokyo. It was founded in 1926 to produce calcium carbide and later ammonium sulfate fertilizer near the Shin'etsu region of central Japan, from which the company takes its name. Shin-Etsu grew into one of the world's largest producers of polyvinyl chloride resin and, through its Shin-Etsu Handotai subsidiary, the world's largest manufacturer of silicon wafers used in semiconductor production, making it a critical supplier to the global electronics industry.
