Sega Corporation is a Japanese video game company headquartered in Tokyo and a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings, tracing its roots to an American-founded coin-operated amusement machine business that took the Sega name in Japan in 1965. The company developed arcade classics and, from 1983 until 2001, its own line of home consoles including the Genesis/Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast, before exiting hardware to concentrate on software publishing. Sega's enduring multi-million-selling franchises include Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza, Total War, Persona and Puyo Puyo, and it remains a major arcade game operator in Japan alongside its console and PC publishing business.
