Pratt & Whitney is an American aerospace manufacturer with global service operations and a subsidiary of RTX Corporation, formerly Raytheon Technologies. Its aircraft engines are widely used in civil aviation, especially airliners, and in military aviation, and its headquarters are in East Hartford, Connecticut. The company was founded in 1925 by Frederick and Gordon Rentschler, Edward Deeds and George J. Mead. It is the world's second-largest commercial aircraft engine manufacturer, with a 35 percent market share as of 2020, and it also makes gas turbine engines for industrial use, marine propulsion and power generation. In 2017 it reported supporting more than 11,000 customers in 180 countries.
