Oxford University Press is the publishing house of the University of Oxford and the largest university press in the world. Its first book was printed in Oxford in 1478, and it was officially granted the right to print books by decree in 1586, making it the second-oldest university press after Cambridge. It is a department of the University of Oxford, governed by fifteen academics called the Delegates of the Press, led by the Secretary to the Delegates, who serves as chief executive. It is located on Walton Street in Oxford. It publishes academic journals, dictionaries, English language resources, bibliographies, Bibles and atlases, and has offices mainly in places that were once part of the British Empire.
