Orsted A/S is a Danish energy company headquartered in Fredericia, Denmark, originally founded in 1972 as Dansk Naturgas, later renamed DONG Energy, to develop the country's North Sea oil and gas resources. Majority owned by the Danish state, the company sold off its oil and gas production business and renamed itself Orsted, after the Danish physicist Hans Christian Orsted, in 2017 as it repositioned itself around offshore wind power, and it became one of the world's largest developers and operators of offshore wind farms.
