Orange Star was an airline holding company formed on 24 July 2005 when Jetstar Asia and Valuair announced their merger amid growing competition from other low-cost carriers, price wars and rising fuel costs. Jetstar Asia's chief executive Chong Phit Lian became chief executive of Orange Star. Jetstar Asia used the Navitaire reservation system while Valuair used a Sabre platform, and the new company had a nine member board with Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon slated to chair it.
