New World Pictures

New World Pictures is an American film production and distribution company founded in 1970 by the low-budget filmmaker and producer Roger Corman, built initially on inexpensive exploitation and genre films aimed at the drive-in and grindhouse market. Under Corman's direct management, the company became a well-known launching pad for young filmmakers who went on to major Hollywood careers, including Jonathan Demme, Joe Dante and Ron Howard, all of whom directed early films for New World. Corman sold the company in 1983, after which it moved toward more mainstream studio-style productions under new ownership, distinct from the scrappy independent operation he had built.
