National Grid plc is a British utility company headquartered in London, formed to operate Great Britain's electricity transmission network following the privatization of the country's electricity industry in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It owns and operates the high-voltage electricity transmission network across England, Scotland and Wales, and has also owned significant electricity and gas transmission and distribution assets in the northeastern United States through past and present American subsidiaries.
