Mitsubishi Corporation is a Japanese general trading company, a sogo shosha, and a core member of the Mitsubishi Group, for much of the postwar period the largest of Japan's five great trading houses by revenue and profit. Originally spun off from the Mitsubishi zaibatsu's holding company in 1918, it was split into smaller trading companies by Allied occupation authorities after the Second World War and re-merged under the Mitsubishi Corporation name in 1954, later shifting from pure trading toward direct investment in energy, mining and infrastructure projects worldwide.
