Miramax is an American film studio founded in 1979 by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, who named the company after their parents, Miriam and Max. It became the leading distributor of independent film in the United States through the 1990s, releasing titles including Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love and sex, lies, and videotape, and winning the Academy Award for Best Picture multiple times. The Walt Disney Company owned Miramax from 1993 until selling it in 2010; the company has since changed hands again, with the Qatar-based beIN Media Group acquiring a majority stake in 2016 and Paramount later taking a minority interest.
