MGM Resorts International is an American hospitality and casino gaming company headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, one of the largest owners and operators of casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Its lineage traces to the 1970s and financier Kirk Kerkorian, who built the original MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas and licensed the MGM name and lion logo from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio he then controlled, a naming link the two companies have kept even though MGM Resorts and the film studio have long been entirely separate businesses under separate ownership. Through a series of mergers, including with Mirage Resorts in 2000, the company grew into MGM Resorts International, formally adopting that name in 2010, and its current portfolio includes Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Aria among other major Strip resorts.
