Medtronic plc is a medical device company originally founded in 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Earl Bakken and Palmer Hermundslie as a medical equipment repair shop, which went on to develop the first wearable external pacemaker. It grew into one of the world's largest medical technology companies, making devices for cardiac care, diabetes management, surgery and other fields, and reincorporated in Ireland in 2015 following its acquisition of Covidien.
