Magnolia Pictures is an American independent film distribution company headquartered in New York City, founded in 2001 as a sister company to the entertainment holding company 2929 Entertainment, backed by entrepreneurs Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban. It distributes a mix of independent narrative films and documentaries, and became known as an early and consistent practitioner of "day-and-date" release strategies, making films available through video-on-demand services simultaneously with, or even ahead of, their limited theatrical release, at a time when that approach was still unusual in the industry.
