IMAX Corporation is a Canadian company that develops and licenses large-format film projection and exhibition technology, founded in 1967 by Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor and Robert Kerr as Multiscreen Corporation. Its IMAX system, first demonstrated publicly at Expo 70 in Osaka, Japan, projects onto screens far larger than standard cinema screens using specialized cameras, film formats and later digital projection systems. The company operates dual headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario and Playa Vista, California, and its network of IMAX theaters worldwide screens both giant-format documentaries and specially remastered versions of major Hollywood releases.
