HSBC Holdings was created as its new parent company in 1991 and moved its headquarters to London in 1993, ahead of the 1997 transfer of Hong Kong sovereignty to China. It is one of the largest banking and financial services groups in the world by assets, with a particularly large presence across Asia alongside Europe and the Americas.
