Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational automaker and engine manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, the world's largest manufacturer of motorcycles by volume and one of the largest automobile manufacturers. It was founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda, who had earlier built motorized bicycles in the aftermath of the Second World War, and the company built its first complete motorcycle, the Dream D-Type, that same year. Honda expanded into automobile manufacturing in the early 1960s, and its long running Civic and Accord model lines, both introduced in the 1970s, remain among the best selling passenger cars in the world. Beyond motorcycles and cars, Honda also manufactures a wide range of internal combustion engines used in general purpose equipment such as generators, lawn mowers, and outboard motors.
