Heuliez was a French coachbuilder, called a carrosserie in French, that worked as a production and design unit for other car makers and specialised in short production runs for niche markets such as convertibles and station wagons. Its roots lie in a workshop at Cerizay that Louis Heuliez took over from his father Adolphe in 1922, when it still made English-style carts; by 1925 it had assembled a first car on a Peugeot chassis. From the 1950s it built low-volume vehicles with Citroën, then did large-scale bodywork for Simca and bus work with Mercedes-Benz. By the end it was best known for the retractable roof of the Peugeot 206 CC, of which 350,000 units were produced, and for building the Opel Tigra. It asked its creditors for protection in October 2007, left the convertible roof business in 2010, and its business activity ended on 31 October 2013.
