Hawaiian Airlines is the oldest continuously operating airline in the United States, founded in 1929 as Inter-Island Airways and headquartered in Honolulu. It has long served as the dominant carrier for inter-island travel within Hawaii while also operating longer-haul routes connecting Honolulu and other Hawaiian airports to the US mainland, Asia and the South Pacific. The airline built a distinct brand around Hawaiian hospitality and cultural identity, reflected in its livery and inflight service, and in 2024 it was acquired by Alaska Air Group, joining Alaska Airlines as a second major carrier under that holding company while continuing to operate under its own name and Honolulu hub.
