Geffen Records is an American record label that was known as The David Geffen Company from 1980 to 1992 and as Geffen Records Inc. from 1993 to 2004. David Geffen founded it in 1980 as the music subsidiary of his film company Geffen Pictures, with financial and distribution support from Warner Bros. Records. It was sold to MCA Music Entertainment in 1990, which later became Universal Music Group. Since its merger into the Interscope Geffen A&M group in 1999 it has served as a syndicate label within Interscope Records, and it is part of the Interscope Capitol Labels Group as of 2024.
