Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is a South African state-owned electric utility headquartered in Sandton, Johannesburg, and the primary generator, transmitter and distributor of electricity in South Africa. It was founded in 1923 as the Electricity Supply Commission, from which its name Eskom derives, to develop South Africa's electricity infrastructure, and it built and long operated the large coal fired power stations that supply most of the country's electricity. Since the mid-2010s Eskom's aging and poorly maintained generation fleet, combined with financial mismanagement and corruption, produced years of severe rolling power cuts across South Africa known locally as load shedding.
