Ecopetrol S.A.

Ecopetrol S.A. is a majority state-owned Colombian petroleum company headquartered in Bogota, Colombia's largest company by revenue. It was founded in 1951 as Empresa Colombiana de Petroleos to take over oil operations that had previously been run by a foreign concession, and later adopted the Ecopetrol name and a public share listing while the Colombian government retained majority ownership. The company is engaged in the exploration, production, refining, and transport of oil and natural gas within Colombia and, through subsidiaries, in other Latin American countries, and it operates Colombia's principal oil pipeline network and largest refineries. Ecopetrol has also expanded into electricity transmission and lower-carbon energy sources in recent years following its acquisition of a controlling stake in the Colombian utility ISA.
