DreamWorks Pictures is an American film studio founded in 1994 by director Steven Spielberg, former Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and music mogul David Geffen, whose initials gave the studio its original parent company name, DreamWorks SKG. Its live-action releases included Saving Private Ryan, American Beauty and Gladiator, while its animation arm, later spun off as the separate company DreamWorks Animation in 2004, built its own franchises such as Shrek. The live-action studio itself went through several ownership changes, becoming part of Amblin Partners in 2015 and continuing to produce films distributed primarily through Universal Pictures.
