Drax Group plc is a British power generation company headquartered in Selby, North Yorkshire, England, best known for operating the Drax Power Station, one of the largest power stations in the United Kingdom. The plant was built originally as a coal fired station that began generating electricity in 1974, and was progressively converted beginning in the 2010s to burn compressed wood pellet biomass instead of coal, a conversion the company promoted as a major contributor to reducing the United Kingdom's coal fired generation, though the sourcing and carbon accounting of its biomass fuel has drawn significant public and regulatory scrutiny.
