Vivo (photography)

Communication Services

Vivo was a short-lived Japanese photographic cooperative founded in July 1957 by six photographers from the acclaimed Junin no me (Eyes of Ten) exhibition: Eikoh Hosoe, Kikuji Kawada, Ikko Narahara, Akira Sato, Akira Tanno and Shomei Tomatsu. The group shared an office and darkroom in Higashi Ginza, Tokyo, where they jointly marketed and distributed their photographic work, pursuing images that moved beyond photojournalism toward what they described as capturing reality beyond language, often through deliberately blurred, out-of-focus techniques. The cooperative disbanded in June 1961, after four years of operation.
