DiDi Chuxing Technology Company is a Chinese mobility technology company headquartered in Beijing, offering ride-hailing, taxi-hailing, bike-sharing and vehicle leasing through a mobile app. It was founded in June 2012 by Cheng Wei as a taxi-hailing app originally called Didi Dache, and grew rapidly after merging with rival Kuaidi Dache in 2015 and acquiring Uber's China operations for about 35 billion dollars in 2016. DiDi listed on the New York Stock Exchange in June 2021 but was delisted in 2022 amid Chinese regulatory scrutiny over data security, for which it was fined roughly 1.2 billion dollars. The company now operates across mainland China and in international markets including Mexico, Brazil, Australia and Japan.
