DC Comics, originally DC Comics, Inc. and often called simply DC, is an American comic book publisher owned by Skydance Corporation under Skydance Products and Publishing. The initials stand for Detective Comics, a series first published in 1937, and the first comic under the DC banner also appeared in 1937. It is one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies. Most of its stories are set in the fictional DC Universe, which features Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Flash, teams such as the Justice League and the Teen Titans, and villains such as Lex Luthor and the Joker. Under the imprints Vertigo and DC Black Label it has also published material outside that universe, including Watchmen and V for Vendetta. Its headquarters moved from Manhattan to Burbank, California, in April 2015, and by the lead's 2025 figures it is the second-largest comic book publisher in the comic shop market, behind Marvel.
