Sonic is a telecommunications company and internet service provider headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, operating as a competitive local exchange carrier providing broadband and voice service in California and Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1994 by Dane Jasper and Scott Doty, it has built a reputation for privacy advocacy, cutting its user activity log retention to two weeks in 2011 and fighting a federal court order that year seeking user data related to WikiLeaks volunteer Jacob Appelbaum.
