Cisco Systems, Inc. is an American technology company headquartered in San Jose, California, founded in 1984 by Leonard Bosack and Sandy Lerner, both working at Stanford University at the time. It became the dominant supplier of networking hardware such as routers and switches that route traffic across the internet and corporate networks, and it remains one of the largest networking equipment companies in the world.
