China Southern Airlines is the largest of China's "Big Three" airlines by fleet size and passengers carried, headquartered in Guangzhou and formed in 1988 in the same nationwide restructuring that created Air China and China Eastern. Its principal hub is Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, from which it operates an extensive domestic Chinese network alongside international routes across Asia, Australia and beyond. China Southern was a member of the SkyTeam alliance from the alliance's 2007 expansion into China but withdrew from SkyTeam at the start of 2019 to pursue partnerships independently, remaining majority state-owned through central government holding entities.
