Chevron Corporation is an American oil and gas company tracing its roots to the Pacific Coast Oil Company, founded in California in 1879, which became part of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil trust before the trust's 1911 breakup produced Standard Oil Company of California, later renamed Chevron. It took its modern shape in part through the 2001 merger with Texaco, and is one of the world's largest integrated oil and gas "supermajor" companies. The company moved its headquarters from San Ramon, California to Houston, Texas in 2024.
