Cathay Pacific is the flag carrier of Hong Kong, headquartered at Hong Kong International Airport and founded in 1946 by American Roy C. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow. Majority owned since the 1980s by the Hong Kong trading conglomerate Swire Pacific, with Air China also holding a significant stake, Cathay Pacific became a founding member of the Oneworld alliance in 1999. The airline built its international reputation on long-haul service quality connecting Hong Kong to destinations across North America, Europe, Australia and the rest of Asia, and it survived a period of severe disruption during Hong Kong's 2019-2020 political unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced a major fleet and staffing restructuring.
