The British Tabulating Machine Company, known as BTM, was a firm which manufactured and sold Hollerith unit record equipment and other data-processing equipment. During World War II BTM constructed some 200 bombes, the machines used at Bletchley Park to break the German Enigma machine ciphers. The company was formed in 1902 as The Tabulator Limited after Robert Porter obtained the rights to sell the patented machines of Herman Hollerith, and it was renamed in 1907. In 1920 it moved from London to Letchworth and began manufacturing its own machines rather than simply reselling Hollerith equipment.
